Dorsum nasi
Dorsum nasi is the vertical ridge in the middle of the nose which is often referred to as the "bridge" of the nose. It is the part of the nose that separates the nostrils and extends from the root of the nose down to the tip.
Anatomy[edit | edit source]
The dorsum nasi is made up of both bone and cartilage. The upper third of the dorsum nasi is formed by the nasal bones, while the lower two-thirds are formed by the lateral nasal cartilages and the septal cartilage. The skin covering the dorsum nasi is thin and tightly adherent to the underlying structures.
Clinical significance[edit | edit source]
The shape and size of the dorsum nasi can vary greatly between individuals and is often a focus in rhinoplasty, a type of plastic surgery that reshapes the nose. In some cases, the dorsum nasi may be altered to correct a deformity or to improve the aesthetic appearance of the nose.
