Drawers
Drawers are a type of undergarment, covering the lower half of the body, typically extending from the waist to the mid-thigh or knee. They are worn by both men and women for a variety of reasons, including modesty, hygiene, and warmth.
History[edit | edit source]
The term "drawers" was first used in the 16th century to refer to the loose-fitting trousers worn by men. These garments were "drawn" on, hence the name. In the 19th century, women began wearing drawers as a form of undergarment, often in the form of bloomers.
Types of Drawers[edit | edit source]
There are several types of drawers, including:
- Boxer shorts: Loose-fitting undergarments for men, named for their resemblance to the shorts worn by boxers.
- Briefs: Tight-fitting undergarments for men, also known as "tighty-whities".
- Bloomers: Loose-fitting undergarments for women, popular in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
- Panties: Tight-fitting undergarments for women, available in a variety of styles including bikini, thong, and boyshorts.
Materials[edit | edit source]
Drawers are typically made from a variety of materials, including cotton, silk, and synthetic fabrics. The choice of material often depends on the desired level of comfort, breathability, and durability.
