DreamWorks Pictures

DreamWorks Pictures is an American film production company which is currently a label of Amblin Partners. It was founded in 1994 by Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and David Geffen (collectively, SKG), in which they owned 72%. The studio was formerly distributing its own and third-party films by itself. It has produced or distributed more than ten films with box-office grosses of more than $100 million each.

DreamWorks Pictures was formed in 1994 among others by Steven Spielberg, director and founder of Amblin Entertainment, Jeffrey Katzenberg, former head of film and television at The Walt Disney Company, and David Geffen, founder of Geffen Records. DreamWorks began in 1995, when its creators bought a plot of land in the San Fernando Valley with the goal of establishing a studio which could compete with the likes of Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures.

DreamWorks Pictures has produced and/or distributed many successful films, including Saving Private Ryan, American Beauty, Gladiator, and A Beautiful Mind. The studio has also been involved in the production of a number of high-profile animated features through its sister company, DreamWorks Animation, including Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon.

The DreamWorks Pictures logo features a boy sitting on a crescent moon while fishing. The logo was the last major logo designed by Saul Bass, one of the greatest graphic designers of the 20th century, known for his design of motion-picture title sequences and corporate logos.
