Drexel University is a private university with its main campus located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1891 by Anthony J. Drexel, a noted financier and philanthropist. The university is known for its cooperative education program (co-op), which allows students to gain up to 18 months of paid, full-time work experience in their field of study before graduation.

Drexel University was originally established as the Drexel Institute of Art, Science, and Industry in 1891. The institution was founded to provide educational opportunities in the "practical arts and sciences" for women and men of all backgrounds. In 1936, the institution was renamed the Drexel Institute of Technology, and in 1970, it became Drexel University.

Drexel University offers over 70 undergraduate programs and more than 100 master's, doctoral, and professional programs across its various colleges and schools. The university is particularly known for its programs in engineering, business, information science, and medicine.

Cooperative Education Program[edit | edit source]

Drexel's cooperative education program, or co-op, is one of the oldest and largest in the United States. The program allows students to alternate periods of academic study with periods of full-time employment, providing them with valuable work experience and professional connections.

Drexel University is classified among "R1: Doctoral Universities – Very high research activity". The university conducts research in a variety of fields, including biomedical engineering, nanotechnology, information science, and public health.

Drexel's athletic teams are known as the Drexel Dragons. The university competes in the NCAA Division I as a member of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Drexel offers 18 varsity sports, including basketball, lacrosse, and rowing.
