Duchesne County is a county located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Utah. As of the 2020 census, the population was 19,596. The county seat is Duchesne, and the largest city is Roosevelt.

Duchesne County was created in 1915 from part of Wasatch County. The county was named after the Duchesne River, which runs through the area. The name "Duchesne" is derived from a French-Canadian trapper, although the exact origin is debated.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Duchesne County covers an area of 3,256 square miles, of which 3,241 square miles is land and 15 square miles is water. The county is part of the Uintah Basin, a geologic structural basin in eastern Utah. The Uinta Mountains form the northern boundary of the county.

As of the 2020 census, there were 19,596 people, 6,000 households, and 4,500 families residing in the county. The population density was 6 people per square mile. The racial makeup of the county was predominantly White, with significant Native American and Hispanic populations.

The economy of Duchesne County is largely based on agriculture, oil and gas extraction, and tourism. The county is known for its outdoor recreational opportunities, including fishing, hunting, and hiking.
