Dulcify was foaled in 1975 and was bred by Trelawney Stud in New Zealand. He was sired by Decies out of the mare Sweet Candy. Dulcify was trained by the renowned Australian trainer Colin Hayes.

Dulcify's racing career was marked by several notable victories. He first gained attention as a three-year-old when he won the Victoria Derby in 1978. His performance in the Australian Cup and the Cox Plate further solidified his reputation as one of the top racehorses of his time.
