ECHA
ECHA or European Chemicals Agency is an agency of the European Union which manages the technical, scientific and administrative aspects of the implementation of the European Union regulation called REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals).

The European Chemicals Agency was established in 2007 in Helsinki, Finland, following the adoption of the REACH regulation in 2006. The main aim of the agency is to ensure the safe use of chemicals and to provide information on chemicals to the general public.
Functions[edit | edit source]
The main functions of ECHA are to:
- Manage the registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction processes for chemical substances to ensure consistency across the European Union.
- Provide information on chemicals and to ensure their safe use.
- Implement the classification and labelling inventory.
- Provide technical and scientific guidance and tools to industry and to the Member States.
Structure[edit | edit source]
ECHA is governed by a Management Board, which is composed of representatives from Member States, the European Commission, and stakeholders from industry and non-governmental organisations. The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day running of the agency.
