The European Union regulation No. 2092/91 of the European Council of 24 June 1991 on organic production of agricultural products and indications referring thereto on agricultural products and foodstuffs defines how agricultural products and foods that are designated as ecological products have to be grown. The regulation is derived from the guidelines of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements is a consumer-oriented non-profit organisation, founded in 1995 to help make the science behind food and health more accessible and easier to understand. Based in Brussels, Belgium, its mission is to produce science-based content to inspire and empower healthier and more sustainable diets and lifestyles among European citizens. Scientific integrity and impartiality sit at the core of EUFIC’s work. An independent Scientific Advisory Board guides EUFIC's work ensuring that materials reflect the scientific consensus.
