Eastern Africa
Eastern Africa is a region of the African continent that is located to the east of the continent's central part. It is made up of 19 countries, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Madagascar, among others. The region is known for its diverse cultures, languages, and ecosystems.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Eastern Africa is characterized by a variety of geographical features. It is home to the Great Rift Valley, a geological marvel stretching over 6,000 kilometers from Lebanon in the Middle East to Mozambique in Southern Africa. The region also boasts several high mountains, including Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, the highest peak in Africa, and Mount Kenya, the second highest.
The region's climate varies from tropical along the coastal areas to arid in the interior regions. Eastern Africa is also home to several large lakes, including Lake Victoria, the largest lake in Africa, and Lake Tanganyika, the second deepest in the world.

Eastern Africa is a melting pot of cultures, with hundreds of different ethnic groups and languages. The region is known for its rich oral tradition, with stories, proverbs, and riddles passed down through generations. Music and dance are also integral parts of the cultural fabric of Eastern Africa, with styles varying from the Maasai people's traditional music to the popular Benga music of Kenya.

The economy of Eastern Africa is diverse, with agriculture being the mainstay of many countries. The region is a major producer of coffee, tea, and flowers, with Kenya and Ethiopia being among the world's leading exporters of these commodities. Eastern Africa has a rich and complex history. It is believed to be the birthplace of humanity, with the oldest known human fossils discovered in Ethiopia. The region was also home to some of the earliest civilizations, including the Aksumite Empire in Ethiopia and the Swahili Coast civilization along the eastern coast.
In the modern era, Eastern Africa has experienced a range of challenges, including colonialism, conflict, and poverty. However, it has also seen significant progress in areas such as education, health, and economic development.
