Eastern philosophy

Eastern philosophy refers to the various philosophies that originated in East and South Asia including Chinese philosophy, Indian philosophy, Japanese philosophy, and Korean philosophy which are dominant in East Asia and South Asia today.

Eastern philosophies are the philosophies of the Eastern world, including the Indian subcontinent, the East Asian region, and the Middle East. They include:

Eastern Philosophy and Western Philosophy[edit | edit source]

Eastern philosophy and Western philosophy are often subject to much comparison. Eastern philosophy is often seen as more holistic, focused on the relations between things, and less on categorization. Western philosophy, on the other hand, is often seen as more analytical and focused on categorization.

Buddhism[edit | edit source]

Buddhism is a non-theistic system of beliefs based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, an Indian prince later known as the Buddha. It is a major world religion, and its teachings include the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path.

Hinduism[edit | edit source]

Hinduism is a complex and diverse set of beliefs and practices that originated in the Indian subcontinent. It is characterized by a belief in reincarnation and a supreme being of many forms and natures.

Taoism[edit | edit source]

Taoism is a philosophy and religion that originated in China, centered around the concept of the Tao, or the way. It emphasizes living in harmony with the Tao.

Confucianism[edit | edit source]

Confucianism is a philosophy that originated in China, emphasizing moral integrity, respect for authority, and the importance of family.
