Ecco Pro
Ecco Pro is a personal information manager (PIM) software that was originally developed by Arabesque Software and later acquired by NetManage. It was first released in 1993 and became popular for its unique and flexible approach to managing information.
Features[edit | edit source]
Ecco Pro is known for its outliner-based interface, which allows users to create and manage hierarchical lists. This feature makes it particularly useful for project management, task management, and note-taking. Some of the key features of Ecco Pro include:
- **Outliner Interface**: The core of Ecco Pro is its outliner, which lets users create nested lists and organize information hierarchically.
- **Calendar and Scheduling**: Ecco Pro includes a built-in calendar and scheduling tools, allowing users to manage appointments and deadlines.
- **Contact Management**: Users can store and manage contact information, making it a useful tool for customer relationship management (CRM).
- **Customizable Views**: Ecco Pro allows users to create custom views and filters to display information in various ways.
- **Synchronization**: The software supports synchronization with other devices and applications, although this feature has become less relevant with the advent of modern cloud computing solutions.
History[edit | edit source]
Ecco Pro was initially developed by Arabesque Software, a company founded by Art Ehuan and Tom Hagan. The software quickly gained a dedicated user base due to its innovative features and flexibility. In 1994, Arabesque Software was acquired by NetManage, which continued to develop and support Ecco Pro until 1997. After that, official support for the software was discontinued, but it remains popular among a niche group of users.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Despite its discontinuation, Ecco Pro has maintained a loyal following. Many users continue to use the software due to its unique capabilities that are not fully replicated by modern PIM tools. There are also active online communities and forums where users share tips, tricks, and support for running Ecco Pro on modern operating systems.
