Ecological is a term that refers to the study of interactions among organisms and their environment. It is a branch of biology that involves the investigation of energy flow, biogeochemical cycles, population dynamics, community structure, ecosystem stability, and biodiversity.

Ecology is a multidisciplinary science that is closely related to biology, climatology, soil science, geology, and physics. It seeks to explain the vital processes, interactions and dynamics among flora, fauna, and microbes, as well as the environmental factors affecting them.

The term "ecology" was coined by the German biologist Ernst Haeckel in 1866. It has evolved over time to incorporate various sub-disciplines.

Sub-disciplines[edit | edit source]

Ecology is a broad field that is divided into many sub-disciplines, including Population ecology, Community ecology, Ecosystem ecology, Behavioral ecology, and Conservation ecology.

Ecology helps us understand the vital connections between plants and animals and the world around them. It provides useful evidence on the importance of ecosystem services to human survival and economic activity.
