Ed Kranepool
Edward Emil "Ed" Kranepool (born November 8, 1944) is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who spent his entire career with the New York Mets. He was a left-handed first baseman and outfielder.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Kranepool was born in Bronx, New York. He attended James Monroe High School, where he excelled in baseball. His talent was evident from a young age, and he was signed by the New York Mets as an amateur free agent in 1962 at the age of 17.
Major League Career[edit | edit source]
Kranepool made his MLB debut on September 22, 1962, at the age of 17, during the Mets' inaugural season. He quickly became a fan favorite and a mainstay in the Mets' lineup.
1960s[edit | edit source]
During the early years of his career, Kranepool struggled to find consistency at the plate. However, he showed flashes of potential and was selected to the 1965 All-Star Game. Despite the Mets' struggles as a team, Kranepool's performance was a bright spot.
1970s[edit | edit source]
Kranepool's career saw a resurgence in the 1970s. He played a key role in the Mets' 1969 World Series championship team, contributing both offensively and defensively. His ability to come through in clutch situations made him a valuable asset to the team.
In 1973, Kranepool was part of the Mets' team that won the National League Championship and competed in the 1973 World Series. Although the Mets lost to the Oakland Athletics, Kranepool's performance was commendable.

Kranepool continued to play for the Mets until his retirement in 1979. Over his 18-year career, he amassed 1,418 hits, 118 home runs, and 614 RBIs. He holds several Mets' franchise records, including most games played.
Post-Playing Career[edit | edit source]
After retiring from baseball, Kranepool remained active in the sport, participating in various Mets' alumni events and working as a stockbroker. He has also been involved in numerous charitable activities and community service projects.

Kranepool's legacy with the Mets is significant. He is remembered as one of the original Mets and a key figure in the team's early history. His contributions to the Mets' 1969 World Series victory and his long tenure with the team have cemented his place in Mets' lore.
