Edmund D Pellegrino

Edmund D. Pellegrino (June 22, 1920 – June 13, 2013) was an American physician and bioethicist, widely regarded as one of the founders of the field of bioethics. He made significant contributions to the philosophy of medicine and medical ethics, emphasizing the importance of the patient-physician relationship and the moral foundations of medical practice.

Edmund Pellegrino was born in Newark, New Jersey. He earned his undergraduate degree from St. John's University and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine.

He served as the President of the Catholic University of America, Director of the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University, and Chairman of the President's Council on Bioethics under President George W.
