Eduard Zeis (October 1, 1807 – June 24, 1868) was a German surgeon and ophthalmologist. He is best known for coining the term "plastic surgery".

Eduard Zeis was born in Dresden, Germany. He studied medicine at the University of Leipzig and the University of Göttingen, where he developed an interest in surgery and ophthalmology.

Zeis began his medical career as a surgeon and ophthalmologist. He worked in various hospitals and clinics, where he gained a reputation for his skill and innovation in surgical techniques. In 1838, he published a book titled Handbuch der plastischen Chirurgie (Handbook of Plastic Surgery), which is considered one of the first comprehensive texts on the subject. It was in this book that Zeis first used the term "plastic surgery" to describe the surgical specialty focused on the repair and reconstruction of deformities and defects.
