Egbert Cadbury

 Egbert Cadbury (1893–1967) was a British Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) officer and later a businessman. He is best known for his role as a fighter pilot during World War I, where he achieved notable success in aerial combat.

Early Life[edit | edit source]

Egbert Cadbury was born on 20 April 1893 in Birmingham, England. He was a member of the prominent Cadbury family, known for their chocolate manufacturing business, Cadbury. He was educated at King Edward's School, Birmingham and later attended Trinity College, Cambridge.

Military Career[edit | edit source]

World War I[edit | edit source]

Cadbury joined the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS) in 1915. He quickly distinguished himself as a skilled pilot. On 6 August 1918, he was involved in the downing of the German Zeppelin L 70, which was commanded by Peter Strasser, the leader of the German naval airship service. This event marked a significant victory for the Allies and earned Cadbury the Distinguished Service Cross.

Post-War Career[edit | edit source]

After the war, Egbert Cadbury returned to the family business. He played a significant role in the expansion and modernization of the Cadbury company. Under his leadership, the company continued to grow and became one of the largest confectionery manufacturers in the world.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Egbert Cadbury married Mary Forbes in 1922, and they had three children. He was known for his philanthropic efforts, particularly in the areas of education and social welfare.

Death[edit | edit source]

Egbert Cadbury passed away on 30 July 1967 in Birmingham, England.
