Italian cancer researcher

Elisa Oricchio

Elisa Oricchio is an Italian cancer researcher known for her work in the field of cancer biology, particularly in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying lymphoma. She is an assistant professor at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Switzerland, where she leads a research group focused on cancer research.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Elisa Oricchio was born in Italy. She pursued her undergraduate studies in biotechnology at the University of Naples Federico II, where she developed a strong interest in cancer research. She then completed her Ph.D. in molecular oncology at the European Institute of Oncology in Milan, where she studied the genetic and epigenetic alterations in cancer.

Research Career[edit | edit source]

After completing her Ph.D., Oricchio moved to the United States to conduct postdoctoral research at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. During her time there, she worked on understanding the role of tumor suppressor genes in lymphoma and developed novel therapeutic strategies to target these pathways.

In 2015, Oricchio joined the faculty at EPFL, where she established her own research laboratory. Her research focuses on the identification of new therapeutic targets in lymphoma and the development of innovative treatment strategies. Her work has contributed significantly to the understanding of the molecular basis of cancer and has been published in several high-impact scientific journals.

Research Focus[edit | edit source]

Oricchio's research is primarily centered on the following areas:

  • Tumor Suppressor Genes: Investigating the role of tumor suppressor genes in the development and progression of lymphoma.
  • Epigenetic Modifications: Studying the impact of epigenetic changes on cancer cell behavior and how these can be targeted for therapy.
  • Therapeutic Resistance: Understanding the mechanisms of resistance to current cancer therapies and developing strategies to overcome them.

Awards and Recognition[edit | edit source]

Elisa Oricchio has received numerous awards for her contributions to cancer research, including the European Research Council Starting Grant and recognition from various scientific societies. Her work is highly regarded in the field of oncology, and she is frequently invited to speak at international conferences.
