Elisabeth of Valois (2 April 1545 – 3 October 1568) was a French princess who became the Queen of Spain through her marriage to Philip II of Spain. She was born at the Château de Fontainebleau in France, the daughter of King Henry II of France and Queen Catherine de' Medici.
Elisabeth married Philip II of Spain in 1559, cementing an alliance between France and Spain. The marriage produced one daughter, Isabella Clara Eugenia, who later became the Sovereign of the Habsburg Netherlands.
Elisabeth's time in Spain was marked by her grace and intelligence, earning her the admiration of the Spanish court. She was known for her charitable works and patronage of the arts.
Tragically, Elisabeth of Valois passed away on 3 October 1568 at the Palace of Aranjuez in Spain, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and diplomacy.
