ElliptiGO
ElliptiGO is a brand of elliptical bicycles designed for outdoor use. The ElliptiGO combines the motion of an elliptical trainer with the functionality of a bicycle, providing a low-impact workout that is easier on the joints compared to traditional running or cycling.
History[edit | edit source]
The concept of the ElliptiGO was developed by Bryan Pate and Brent Teal in 2005. Pate, a former triathlete, was looking for a way to stay active after being diagnosed with injuries that prevented him from running. Teal, a mechanical engineer, helped design the first prototype. The first ElliptiGO model was released to the public in 2010.
Design and Features[edit | edit source]
ElliptiGO bikes are designed to mimic the motion of running while eliminating the impact associated with it. The bikes feature an elliptical pedaling motion, which is achieved through a system of cranks and linkages. Riders stand upright on the pedals, which move in an elliptical path.
Models[edit | edit source]
ElliptiGO offers several models, each designed for different types of use:
- ElliptiGO 8C: This model features an 8-speed internal hub and is designed for a variety of terrains.
- ElliptiGO Arc: A lighter, more compact model with a 3-speed or 8-speed external derailleur.
- ElliptiGO MSUB: A multi-surface utility bike designed for off-road use.
Benefits[edit | edit source]
The primary benefits of using an ElliptiGO include:
- Low-Impact Exercise: The elliptical motion reduces stress on the joints, making it suitable for individuals with injuries or those looking to avoid high-impact activities.
- Full-Body Workout: The upright riding position engages the core and upper body muscles in addition to the legs.
- Outdoor Experience: Unlike stationary elliptical trainers, ElliptiGO bikes allow users to enjoy outdoor environments.
Usage[edit | edit source]
ElliptiGO bikes are used by a variety of individuals, including:
- Athletes: For cross-training and maintaining fitness while recovering from injuries.
- Fitness Enthusiasts: As a versatile and enjoyable form of exercise.
- Commuters: As an alternative mode of transportation.
