The Emblem of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was the official emblem of the Yakut Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Yakut ASSR), a constituent republic of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) within the Soviet Union. The emblem was adopted in 1937 and was used until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1992.
Design[edit | edit source]
The emblem of the Yakut ASSR was based on the State Emblem of the Soviet Union, reflecting the common design elements used in the emblems of other Soviet republics. It featured a hammer and sickle, symbolizing the unity of the workers and peasants, set against a rising sun, which represented the future of the Soviet people. The emblem was framed by a wreath of wheat, symbolizing agriculture, and was adorned with a red star at the top, representing the Communist Party.
The motto "Пролетарии всех стран, соединяйтесь!" ("Proletarians of all countries, unite!") was inscribed on the emblem in both Russian and Yakut. The name of the republic was also included in both languages.
Historical Context[edit | edit source]
The Yakut ASSR was established in 1922 as an autonomous republic within the RSFSR. The adoption of the emblem in 1937 was part of a broader effort to standardize the symbols of the Soviet republics, aligning them with the central Soviet identity while also incorporating local elements.
Changes and Repeal[edit | edit source]
The emblem remained in use until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Yakut ASSR was transformed into the Sakha Republic (Yakutia), and the emblem was replaced with new symbols reflecting the republic's new status and identity.
