Emmy Rossum is an American actress, singer, and director, best known for her role as Fiona Gallagher in the television series Shameless.

Emmanuelle Grey Rossum was born on September 12, 1986, in New York City. She was raised by her single mother, Cheryl Rossum, a corporate photographer. Emmy's parents separated before she was born, and she has no siblings. She is of Russian-Jewish descent on her mother's side.
Education[edit | edit source]
Rossum attended the Spence School, a private school in Manhattan, before pursuing her passion for music and acting. She studied at the Juilliard School and later attended Columbia University, where she took courses in art history, French, and philosophy.

Acting[edit | edit source]
Rossum began her acting career as a child, appearing in the daytime soap opera As the World Turns. She gained recognition for her role in the film Mystic River (2003), directed by Clint Eastwood. Her breakthrough role came in 2004 when she starred as Christine Daa in The Phantom of the Opera, for which she received a Golden Globe Award nomination.
In 2011, Rossum began starring as Fiona Gallagher in the Showtime series Shameless, a role she played until 2019. Her performance was critically acclaimed, and she became a fan favorite.

In addition to acting, Rossum is a talented singer. She released her debut album, "Inside Out," in 2007, followed by a Christmas EP titled "Carol of the Bells." Her music style is a blend of pop and classical influences.

Rossum has also ventured into directing. She directed several episodes of Shameless and expressed interest in pursuing more directing opportunities in the future.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Rossum married music executive Justin Siegel in 2008, but the couple divorced in 2010. She later married writer and director Sam Esmail in 2017. The couple welcomed their first child in 2021.

Rossum is involved in various charitable causes. She is an advocate for animal rights and has worked with organizations such as the Best Friends Animal Society. She is also a supporter of women's rights and has participated in campaigns for gender equality.
