Early Life

Emmanuelle Grey Rossum was born on September 12, 1986, in New York City. She was raised by her single mother, Cheryl Rossum, a corporate photographer. Emmy's parents separated before she was born, and she has no siblings. She is of Russian-Jewish descent on her mother's side.

Education

Rossum attended the Spence School, a private school in Manhattan, before pursuing her passion for music and acting. She studied at the Juilliard School and later attended Columbia University, where she took courses in art history, French, and philosophy.

Rossum began her acting career as a child, appearing in the daytime soap opera As the World Turns. She gained recognition for her role in the film Mystic River (2003), directed by Clint Eastwood.
