Columbia University
Columbia University is a private Ivy League research university located in New York City, New York. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the United States, having been founded in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of King George II of England. It is the fifth oldest institution of higher education in the U.S. and was one of the nine Colonial Colleges founded before the Declaration of Independence. After the American Revolutionary War, the college was renamed Columbia College in 1784, and in 1896, it was further renamed Columbia University. The university now operates under a secular charter and has grown significantly since its inception, now hosting 20 schools, including the renowned Columbia College, Columbia Law School, Columbia Business School, Columbia University Medical Center, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science.
