History[edit | edit source]

End Water Poverty was established in 2007 as a response to the growing recognition of the critical need for improved water and sanitation services worldwide. The coalition was formed by a group of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society groups committed to achieving the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6, which aims to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Objectives[edit | edit source]

The primary objectives of End Water Poverty include:

  • Advocating for increased political commitment and investment in WASH services.
  • Promoting the human right to water and sanitation.
  • Ensuring that marginalized and vulnerable populations have access to safe water and sanitation.
  • Supporting the implementation of effective and sustainable WASH programs.

End Water Poverty organizes various campaigns and initiatives to achieve its objectives. Some of the notable campaigns include:

  • Water Action Month: An annual event in March that raises awareness and mobilizes action around World Water Day.
  • Sanitation and Water for All: A global partnership that works to achieve universal access to WASH services.

Membership[edit | edit source]

The coalition comprises a diverse range of members, including international NGOs, local civil society organizations, and community-based groups. Members collaborate on advocacy efforts, share best practices, and support each other in their work to improve WASH services.

Impact[edit | edit source]

End Water Poverty has played a significant role in raising the profile of WASH issues on the global agenda. The coalition's advocacy efforts have contributed to increased funding for WASH programs, the adoption of policies that prioritize water and sanitation, and greater awareness of the importance of WASH for health, education, and economic development.
