Enduri Pitha

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Enduri Pitha is a traditional Odia dish, primarily prepared during the festival of Prathamastami. It is a type of Pitha, a category of Indian and Bangladeshi foods that are generally classified as a dessert.

Ingredients and Preparation[edit | edit source]

The main ingredients of Enduri Pitha are rice and black gram. The rice and black gram are soaked in water for a few hours, then ground into a fine paste. This paste is then fermented overnight. The next day, the paste is spread on a turmeric leaf, which gives the pitha its distinctive flavor and aroma. The paste is then filled with a mixture of coconut, jaggery, and cardamom. The leaf is then folded and steamed until cooked.

Enduri Pitha is traditionally prepared during the festival of Prathamastami, a festival celebrated in Odisha to pray for the long life and prosperity of the eldest child in the family. The pitha is offered to the family deity and then served to the eldest child. It is also commonly prepared during other festivals and special occasions.

Variations[edit | edit source]

There are several variations of Enduri Pitha. Some variations include adding different types of fillings such as chhena or khoya. Some people also add spices like cinnamon or nutmeg to the filling for additional flavor.
