Energy therapy
Energy therapy is a form of alternative medicine that is based on the belief that a healer can channel healing energy into a patient and effect positive results. This practice is also known as energy healing.
Overview[edit | edit source]
Energy therapy is a collective term for a variety of alternative and complementary treatments based on the use, modification, or manipulation of energy fields. Most energy therapies are based on the concept that a life force energy or vital energy flows through and around the body, and that disruptions or imbalances in this energy flow result in illness or disease.
Types of Energy Therapy[edit | edit source]
There are several types of energy therapy, including:
- Reiki: A Japanese form of energy therapy that involves the laying on of hands.
- Therapeutic touch: A therapy that involves the manipulation of a person's energy field by a healer.
- Qigong: A Chinese practice that combines meditation, controlled breathing, and movement to balance the flow of energy within the body.
- Biofield therapy: A form of therapy that involves the manipulation of energy fields around the body.
Effectiveness and Criticism[edit | edit source]
The effectiveness of energy therapy is a topic of ongoing debate. While some studies have suggested that energy therapy can help reduce pain and anxiety, others have found no evidence to support these claims. Critics argue that any perceived benefits of energy therapy are likely due to placebo effect.
