The England national football team is one of the oldest national teams in the world, having played its first official match against Scotland on 30 November 1872. The match, held at the Hamilton Crescent in Partick, ended in a 0-0 draw.

The team's most significant achievement came in 1966 when they won the 1966 FIFA World Cup, which was held in England. The final was played at Wembley Stadium in London, where England defeated West Germany 4-2 after extra time.
