Enucleation (surgery)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Enucleation is a surgical procedure in which an eye is removed. The procedure is typically performed to remove an eye that has been damaged by disease or injury and cannot be saved. The remaining muscles and orbital contents are adjusted to maintain the proper alignment and movement of the remaining eye. After healing, a prosthetic eye can be inserted for cosmetic purposes.
