Eola-Amity Hills AVA

Eola-Amity Hills AVA is an American Viticultural Area (AVA) located in Oregon, United States. It is recognized for its distinctive wine production, particularly Pinot noir. The region's unique terroir and climate contribute to the distinct characteristics of the wines produced here.

Geography[edit | edit source]

The Eola-Amity Hills AVA is situated in the larger Willamette Valley AVA. It spans over 37,900 acres, with approximately 1,300 acres under vine. The region is defined by its hilly terrain, with elevations ranging from 250 to 700 feet above sea level.

Climate[edit | edit source]

The climate of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA is largely influenced by its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The region experiences a cool, maritime climate, with wet winters and dry summers. The cooling breezes from the Van Duzer Corridor, a gap in the Coastal Range, help to moderate temperatures, particularly during the growing season.

Viticulture[edit | edit source]

The Eola-Amity Hills AVA is renowned for its production of high-quality Pinot noir. The region's volcanic soils, known as Nekia and Jory, provide excellent drainage and are ideal for viticulture. Other grape varieties grown in the region include Chardonnay, Pinot gris, and Riesling.

Wineries[edit | edit source]

There are numerous wineries located within the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, including Cristom Vineyards, Bethel Heights Vineyard, and St. Innocent Winery. These wineries are recognized for their commitment to sustainable viticulture and the production of expressive, terroir-driven wines.
