Equisetum
Equisetum is a genus of vascular plants that reproduce by spores rather than seeds. The genus includes 15 species commonly known as horsetails and scouring rushes.

Equisetum species are perennial plants, either evergreen or decidary. They have a very distinctive appearance and are among the easiest plants to recognize. They typically grow in wet areas, with a cosmopolitan distribution.

The genus Equisetum is the only living genus in Equisetaceae, a family of vascular plants that reproduce by spores rather than seeds. The genus has been divided into several subgenera, including Equisetum and Hippochaete.

Equisetum species have been used for various purposes throughout history. They have been used in traditional medicine, as a food source, and for their abrasive qualities.
