Eric Harroun was an American citizen known for his involvement in the Syrian Civil War. He gained media attention due to his participation with rebel groups fighting against the Syrian government.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Eric Harroun was born in 1982 in Colorado, United States. He grew up in a military family and later served in the United States Army. After his military service, Harroun struggled with various personal issues, including legal troubles and health problems.
Involvement in the Syrian Civil War[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Eric Harroun traveled to Syria, where he joined the fight against the regime of Bashar al-Assad. He initially fought with the Free Syrian Army, a group of Syrian rebels. Harroun's activities in Syria were widely covered by the media, particularly due to his use of social media to document his experiences.
Arrest and Legal Issues[edit | edit source]
Upon returning to the United States, Eric Harroun was arrested by the FBI and charged with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction outside the United States. The charges were later reduced, and he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of violating U.S. arms export control laws. He was sentenced to time served and released.
Death[edit | edit source]
Eric Harroun died in 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona. His death was ruled as a result of an accidental overdose.
