Finger's work extended beyond the treatment of individual patients. He was deeply concerned with the public health implications of STIs and advocated for better education, prevention, and treatment programs. His efforts contributed to the establishment of specialized clinics and hospitals for the treatment of venereal diseases in Austria and beyond.
In addition to his clinical work, Ernst Finger was a prolific writer.
