European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety
European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (often abbreviated as ENVI) is one of the committees within the European Parliament. The ENVI committee is responsible for a wide range of policy areas including environmental policy, public health, and food safety issues.
Mandate and Responsibilities[edit | edit source]
The ENVI committee's mandate includes the development and implementation of EU legislation and policies related to the environment, public health, and food safety. This includes areas such as climate change, biodiversity, air quality, and water quality. In the area of public health, the committee oversees EU legislation and policies on issues such as pharmaceuticals, health emergencies, and health inequalities. In the area of food safety, the committee is responsible for EU legislation and policies on food production, food labeling, and food safety standards.
Structure[edit | edit source]
The ENVI committee is composed of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from various political groups. The committee is chaired by a Chairperson, who is elected by the committee members. The committee also has a number of Vice-Chairs and a Secretariat.
Work[edit | edit source]
The ENVI committee works by examining proposals for EU legislation in its areas of responsibility. The committee can propose amendments to these proposals, which are then voted on by the full European Parliament. The committee also produces reports on various issues within its mandate, and can initiate its own reports.
Impact[edit | edit source]
The work of the ENVI committee has a significant impact on EU legislation and policies in the areas of the environment, public health, and food safety. The committee's decisions can influence the direction of EU policy in these areas, and can have a direct impact on the lives of EU citizens.
