Extraordinary Measures

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Extraordinary measures are medical treatments or interventions that are considered to be above and beyond what is normally considered standard care. These measures may include life support, artificial ventilation, or other advanced medical treatments. Decisions about whether to use extraordinary measures are usually made when a patient's condition is considered to be terminal or when the potential benefits of the treatment are outweighed by the potential risks or side effects.
