Fábrica de Arte Cubano
Fábrica de Arte Cubano (FAC) is a multi-disciplinary cultural venue located in Havana, Cuba. It was established in 2014 by Cuban musician X Alfonso. FAC is housed in a converted cooking oil factory and has quickly become one of Havana's most popular cultural hotspots, showcasing a wide range of contemporary Cuban art and entertainment, including visual arts, photography, music, dance, fashion, cinema, and more.
History[edit | edit source]
The origins of Fábrica de Arte Cubano can be traced back to the vision of its founder, X Alfonso, who sought to create a space where different art forms could coexist and interact. The venue opened its doors in 2014, in a building that was once a cooking oil factory, hence the name "Fábrica" (Factory). Since its inception, FAC has played a significant role in Havana's cultural scene, offering a platform for both established and emerging Cuban artists.
Concept[edit | edit source]
Fábrica de Arte Cubano is designed as a cultural laboratory, where artists from various disciplines can present their work to the public. The space is divided into several areas, each dedicated to a different art form. This setup encourages visitors to explore and experience the diverse aspects of Cuban culture. FAC's innovative approach to art and culture, combined with its industrial-chic aesthetic, has made it a unique venue in Cuba.
Programming[edit | edit source]
FAC offers a rich and varied program that includes art exhibitions, live music performances, dance shows, film screenings, and fashion shows. The venue also hosts workshops, lectures, and other educational activities, aiming to foster dialogue between artists and the public. Its programming reflects the dynamic and diverse nature of contemporary Cuban culture, making FAC a key player in promoting Cuban art both nationally and internationally.
Impact[edit | edit source]
Since its opening, Fábrica de Arte Cubano has had a profound impact on Havana's cultural landscape. It has provided a much-needed space for artistic expression and cultural exchange, attracting a wide audience that includes both locals and tourists. FAC has also been instrumental in promoting Cuban artists on the international stage, offering them exposure and opportunities to collaborate with artists from around the world.
