Filippo De Filippi

Filippo De Filippi (April 20, 1814 – February 9, 1867) was an Italian physician, zoologist, and explorer.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Filippo De Filippi was born in Pavia, Italy. He studied medicine at the University of Pavia, where he developed an interest in natural history and zoology.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his studies, De Filippi practiced medicine in Pavia. He later became a professor of anatomy at the University of Pavia. In 1853, he was appointed professor of human anatomy at the University of Turin.

De Filippi is known for his contributions to the field of zoology. He conducted extensive research on various animal species, particularly marine animals. His work led to the discovery of several new species.

In addition to his academic career, De Filippi was also an explorer. He participated in several scientific expeditions, including the Second Opium War and the North Pacific Exploring and Surveying Expedition.

De Filippi died on February 9, 1867, in Turin, Italy.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

De Filippi's contributions to zoology and exploration have had a lasting impact on these fields. Several animal species have been named in his honor.
