Fingertip

The fingertip is the end part of a finger. It is a location where many nerve endings are located, making it an area of strong tactile sensitivity.

Anatomy[edit | edit source]

The fingertip is the location of the fingernail, which protects the distal phalanx, the last bone of the finger. The underside of the fingertip, the finger pad, is a unique area of specialized skin which is highly sensitive and provides the ability to sense and manipulate objects.

Functions[edit | edit source]

Fingertips are used for many purposes, including feeling, gripping, and manipulating objects. They are also used in many forms of communication, such as typing and sign language.

Health and Care[edit | edit source]

Due to their high sensitivity, fingertips can be prone to injuries, such as cuts and burns. Proper care, including regular moisturizing and protection from harsh conditions, can help maintain the health of the fingertips.
