First Milk (company)

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

First Milk is a British dairy cooperative owned by farmers and based in Glasgow, Scotland. It is the largest dairy cooperative in the United Kingdom, supplying a wide range of dairy products to both domestic and international markets.

History[edit | edit source]

First Milk was established in 2001 following the merger of two smaller dairy cooperatives, the Scottish Milk Group and the Milk Group. The cooperative was formed with the aim of giving dairy farmers more control over the marketing and sale of their products.

Operations[edit | edit source]

First Milk operates across the UK, with processing facilities in Scotland, England and Wales. The cooperative produces a wide range of dairy products, including milk, cheese, butter and yogurt. These products are sold under various brand names, including Lake District Dairy Co, Pembrokeshire Cheese Company and the Isle of Arran Cheese Company.

Membership[edit | edit source]

Membership of First Milk is open to all dairy farmers in the UK. Members are required to commit a certain volume of milk to the cooperative each year, in return for which they receive a share of the cooperative's profits.

Governance[edit | edit source]

First Milk is governed by a board of directors, which is elected by the cooperative's members. The board is responsible for setting the cooperative's strategic direction and overseeing its operations.
