Francisco Franco, 2nd Lord Of Meirás
Francisco Franco, 2nd Lord of Meirás (also known as Francisco Franco y Martínez-Bordiú) is a Spanish nobleman and the grandson of Francisco Franco, the dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975. He is the current holder of the title Lord of Meirás, a hereditary title in the Spanish nobility.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Francisco Franco, 2nd Lord of Meirás was born on December 9, 1954, in Madrid, Spain. He is the son of Carmen Franco, 1st Duchess of Franco and Cristóbal Martínez-Bordiú, 10th Marquis of Villaverde. His paternal grandparents were Francisco Franco and Carmen Polo, 1st Lady of Meirás.
Career[edit | edit source]
Franco has largely stayed out of the public eye, choosing to live a private life away from the media. However, he has occasionally spoken out on matters related to his grandfather's legacy and the Franco family's controversial ownership of the Pazo de Meirás, a historic manor house in Galicia.
Lord of Meirás[edit | edit source]
The title of Lord of Meirás was created in 1975 by Francisco Franco for his wife, Carmen Polo. Upon her death in 1988, the title passed to their daughter, Carmen Franco, 1st Duchess of Franco. When she died in 2017, the title was inherited by her son, Francisco Franco, 2nd Lord of Meirás.
Controversies[edit | edit source]
The Franco family's ownership of the Pazo de Meirás has been a source of controversy in Spain. In 2020, a Spanish court ruled that the property, which had been acquired by Francisco Franco during his dictatorship, should be returned to the Spanish state. The decision was upheld on appeal in 2021.
Personal Life[edit | edit source]
Francisco Franco, 2nd Lord of Meirás is married to María del Mar Martínez-Bordiú y Franco. They have two children, Francisco and Juan.
