He co-founded the organization Circolo Omosessuale di Cultura (Homosexual Cultural Circle) in Bologna in 1972. In 1980, Grillini co-founded the organization Arcigay, which is one of the most prominent LGBT rights organizations in Italy. He played a crucial role in promoting equality and fighting discrimination based on sexual orientation.
