[[File:FrazierCap.theora.ogv|FrazierCap.theora.ogv Frasier is an American television sitcom that was broadcast on NBC from September 16, 1993, to May 13, 2004. The series was created as a spin-off of the popular show Cheers, continuing the story of psychiatrist Frasier Crane after he returns to his hometown of Seattle, Washington.

Premise[edit | edit source]

The show focuses on the life of Frasier Crane (played by Kelsey Grammer), who moves back to Seattle to start a new life as a radio psychiatrist after his divorce. Living with him is his father, Martin Crane (played by John Mahoney), a retired police detective who is recuperating from a gunshot wound that left him with a limp. Martin's physical therapist, Daphne Moon (played by Jane Leeves), also lives in the household. Frasier's brother, Niles Crane (played by David Hyde Pierce), a fellow psychiatrist, frequently visits. The series explores the familial and professional lives of its main characters, particularly the relationship between the Crane brothers and their father, as well as Frasier's career and love life.

Characters[edit | edit source]

  • Frasier Crane: The protagonist, a snobbish but well-meaning psychiatrist who hosts a call-in radio show.
  • Niles Crane: Frasier's younger brother, also a psychiatrist, who is in love with Daphne Moon for much of the series.
  • Martin Crane: Frasier and Niles' father, a down-to-earth retired police officer.
  • Daphne Moon: Martin's physical therapist and housekeeper, originally from England.
  • Roz Doyle: (played by Peri Gilpin), the producer of Frasier's radio show, a good friend to Frasier, and known for her active dating life.

Reception and Legacy[edit | edit source]

Frasier received critical acclaim throughout its run, winning a record 37 Primetime Emmy Awards, including four for Outstanding Comedy Series. It was praised for its witty dialogue, complex characters, and the chemistry between its cast members. The show has been ranked among the best television sitcoms of all time by various publications.

Frasier is notable for its influence on television comedy, particularly in how it dealt with themes of family, romance, and personal growth. Its success led to discussions of several revival or reboot projects, reflecting its enduring popularity.

Revival[edit | edit source]

In February 2021, it was announced that a revival of Frasier was in development for the streaming service Paramount+, with Kelsey Grammer reprising his role. The revival aims to explore the next chapter in Frasier Crane's life, offering fans a chance to catch up with one of television's most beloved characters.
