Funyuns

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Funyuns is a brand of onion-flavored corn snacks. They are a product of Frito-Lay, a subsidiary of PepsiCo. The name "Funyuns" is a portmanteau of "fun" and "onions".

History[edit | edit source]

Funyuns were invented in 1969 by a Frito-Lay employee named Jim Woodring. Woodring was inspired by the flavor of onion rings and wanted to create a snack that captured that taste. The result was Funyuns, which quickly became a popular snack food in the United States.

Product Description[edit | edit source]

Funyuns are ring-shaped snacks made from cornmeal and flavored with onion powder. They are known for their distinctive onion flavor and crunchy texture. Funyuns are typically sold in bags, similar to other snack foods. They are often eaten alone, but can also be used as a topping for dishes like salads and casseroles.

Varieties[edit | edit source]

Over the years, Frito-Lay has introduced several different flavors of Funyuns. These include Wasabi, Flamin' Hot, and Steakhouse Onion. Each variety offers a unique twist on the original onion flavor.

Cultural Impact[edit | edit source]

Funyuns have made numerous appearances in popular culture. They have been featured in television shows like Breaking Bad and The Office, and have been mentioned in songs by artists like Lil Wayne and Big Sean. Funyuns are also a popular snack at sporting events and parties.
