Garoto
Garoto is a renowned Brazilian chocolate manufacturer. The company was established in 1929 in Vila Velha, Espírito Santo. The name "Garoto" translates to "boy" in Portuguese.
History[edit | edit source]
Garoto was founded by German immigrant Heinrich Meyerfreund who began by selling homemade chocolates from a basket on the streets of Vila Velha. The company grew rapidly and by the 1940s, it was already one of the largest chocolate manufacturers in Brazil.
In 2002, Garoto was acquired by the Swiss multinational company Nestlé. Despite the acquisition, Nestlé has maintained the Garoto brand due to its strong presence and recognition in the Brazilian market.
Products[edit | edit source]
Garoto produces a wide range of chocolate products. Some of the most popular include the "Baton" (a chocolate bar shaped like a lipstick), "Serenata de Amor" (a bonbon filled with cashew nut cream), and the "Garoto Bonbons" (an assortment of chocolates). The company also produces Easter eggs and other seasonal products.
Social Responsibility[edit | edit source]
Garoto is known for its commitment to social responsibility. The company has implemented several initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of cocoa farmers and promoting sustainable farming practices. It is also a major sponsor of sports and cultural events in Brazil.
