Georgia is a country located in the Caucasus region of Eurasia. Situated at the juncture of Eastern Europe and Western Asia, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. The capital and largest city is Tbilisi.

Georgia's history dates back to the Bronze Age, with the rise of the early Georgian states of Colchis and Iberia. The country's location on the crossroads of Europe and Asia has led to a unique blend of cultural, historical, and political influences from the Roman Empire, Byzantine Empire, Ottoman Empire, Persian Empire, and the Russian Empire.

Georgia's geography is diverse, with a mix of mountainous and flat terrain. The country is home to the Greater Caucasus mountain range, which acts as a natural barrier between Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The Lesser Caucasus mountains occupy the southern part of the country. Georgia also has several national parks, including the Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park and the Tusheti National Park.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Georgian culture is a rich blend of Eastern and Western influences. The country is known for its traditional music, dance, and visual arts. The Georgian language is one of the oldest languages in the world and has its own unique script, the Georgian alphabet. Georgia is also famous for its hospitality and its cuisine, which includes dishes like khinkali (meat dumplings), khachapuri (cheese-filled bread), and churchkhela (candy made from grape must, nuts, and flour).

Georgia's economy is diverse, with significant contributions from the agriculture, mining, and service sectors. The country is known for its production of wine, with a winemaking history that spans over 8,000 years. Georgia also has significant mineral resources, including manganese, copper, and gold.

Politics[edit | edit source]

Georgia is a unitary semi-presidential republic, with the President as the head of state, and the Prime Minister as the head of government. The country's political history has been marked by a struggle for democracy, with significant progress made since the Rose Revolution in 2003.
