Gettysburg College is a private liberal arts college located in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1832, the college is known for its rigorous academic programs and its historical significance, being situated near the site of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Gettysburg College was founded by Samuel Simon Schmucker, a prominent Lutheran theologian, in 1832. The college was originally named Pennsylvania College of Gettysburg. Schmucker's vision was to create an institution that combined rigorous academics with a strong moral foundation.
During the American Civil War, the college's Pennsylvania Hall was used as a hospital for both Union and Confederate soldiers. The college's proximity to the Gettysburg National Military Park has made it a site of historical interest.
