Glen Keith distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the town of Keith, in the Speyside region of Scotland. It is known for producing single malt Scotch whisky and is owned by Chivas Brothers, a subsidiary of Pernod Ricard.

History[edit | edit source]

The Glen Keith distillery was established in 1957 by Seagram as a part of their expansion into the Scotch whisky market. The distillery was built on the site of an old corn mill, adjacent to the River Isla, which provides the water source for the distillery. Glen Keith was one of the first new distilleries to be built in Scotland in the 20th century.

In 1999, the distillery was mothballed due to a surplus of whisky production. However, it was reopened in 2013 after extensive renovations and modernization by Chivas Brothers.

Production[edit | edit source]

Glen Keith distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production, including the use of copper pot stills. The distillery has six stills, three wash stills, and three spirit stills. The water used in the production process is drawn from natural springs in the nearby Balloch Hill.

The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, which are aged in oak casks. The maturation process takes place in traditional dunnage warehouses, which provide the ideal conditions for aging whisky.

Products[edit | edit source]

Glen Keith distillery is known for its light and fruity single malt whiskies. Some of the notable expressions include:

  • Glen Keith 10 Year Old
  • Glen Keith 12 Year Old
  • Glen Keith Distillery Edition

These whiskies are characterized by their smooth and delicate flavors, with notes of fruit, vanilla, and oak.

Visitor Centre[edit | edit source]

The distillery has a visitor centre that offers guided tours, allowing visitors to learn about the whisky-making process and the history of Glen Keith. The tours typically include a visit to the still house, the warehouses, and a tasting session.
