Glen Maxey (born February 23, 1952) is an American politician and a member of the Democratic Party. He is notable for being the first openly gay member of the Texas House of Representatives.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Maxey was born in Baytown, Texas. He attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. He later pursued graduate studies at the University of Houston.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Maxey's political career began with his election to the Texas House of Representatives in 1991. He represented the 51st District, which includes parts of Austin. During his tenure, Maxey was known for his advocacy on issues such as healthcare, education, and LGBT rights.

Legislative Achievements[edit | edit source]

Maxey was instrumental in the passage of several key pieces of legislation. He worked on expanding access to healthcare for low-income families and was a strong advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
