Glenmorangie distillery

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Glenmorangie Distillery is a distillery specializing in single malt Scotch whisky located in Tain, Ross-shire, Scotland. The distillery is owned by The Glenmorangie Company Ltd, whose main product is the range of Glenmorangie single malt whisky.

History[edit | edit source]

Glenmorangie Distillery was established in 1843 by William Matheson, a former distillery manager. The distillery was initially equipped with two pot stills, which were then the tallest in Scotland. The height of the stills is said to give the whisky its characteristic smoothness.

Production[edit | edit source]

Glenmorangie is categorized as a Highland distillery and boasts the tallest stills in Scotland. The distillery uses locally grown barley and water from the Tarlogie Springs. The whisky is matured in a variety of casks including American white oak, Oloroso sherry, and Portuguese port pipes.

Products[edit | edit source]

Glenmorangie produces a range of aged single malts, including the 10-year-old Original, 18-year-old Extremely Rare, and 25-year-old Quarter Century. They also produce a range of special cask finishes including the Lasanta (sherry cask finish), Quinta Ruban (port cask finish), and Nectar D'Or (Sauternes cask finish).

Awards[edit | edit source]

Glenmorangie has been awarded a number of accolades in international spirit ratings competitions. Its products have performed well at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, the International Wine and Spirit Competition, and the International Spirits Challenge.
