Gora (region)
Gora is a geographical region located in the southern part of the Balkans. It is primarily shared between Kosovo and Albania, with a smaller part in North Macedonia. The region is inhabited by the Gorani people, who are Slavic Muslim ethnic group.

The Gora region is situated between the Šar Mountains to the north and the Jablanica mountain range to the south. It includes the city of Dragaš in Kosovo and the area around the Globocica lake in North Macedonia. The region is characterized by its mountainous terrain and its rich biodiversity, including several endemic species.
History[edit | edit source]
Historically, Gora was part of the Ottoman Empire until the Balkan Wars in the early 20th century. After the wars, the region was divided between the Kingdom of Serbia and the Kingdom of Albania. During the Yugoslav period, Gora was part of the autonomous province of Kosovo and Metohija within the Socialist Republic of Serbia.

The culture of Gora is a blend of Balkan and Ottoman influences. The Gorani people are known for their traditional music, dances, and cuisine. The region is also known for its traditional architecture, with houses typically built from wood and stone.
