The Government of Andhra Pradesh is the state government of Andhra Pradesh, a state in the southeastern part of India. It is responsible for the administration and governance of the state and its inhabitants. The government operates within the framework of the Constitution of India and exercises its powers and functions as delineated in the constitution.

Structure[edit | edit source]

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is structured into three main branches: the Executive, the Legislature, and the Judiciary.

Executive[edit | edit source]

The Executive branch is headed by the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, who is appointed by the President of India. The Governor acts as the nominal head, while the real power lies with the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and the Council of Ministers. The Chief Minister is the head of government and is vested with most of the executive powers.

The Legislature of Andhra Pradesh is bicameral, consisting of two houses: the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly (Lower House) and the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council (Upper House). The Legislative Assembly is composed of members elected from various constituencies in the state. The Legislative Council is a permanent body with a third of its members retiring every two years.

The Judiciary in Andhra Pradesh is headed by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, which has jurisdiction over the entire state. The High Court ensures the application and interpretation of the law in the state and safeguards the constitution. Below the High Court, there are various lower courts including district courts and other subordinate courts.

The state is administratively divided into districts, each headed by a district collector. The districts are further divided into mandals and villages. The local self-government bodies in urban and rural areas include Municipal Corporations, Municipalities, and Panchayats, which are responsible for local governance.

The Government of Andhra Pradesh comprises various departments and agencies that are tasked with implementing policies and delivering public services. These include the Departments of Finance, Health, Education, Agriculture, and many others. Each department is headed by a minister and administrative officials.
