The aim is to share knowledge and insights about a particular case, including the symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

History[edit | edit source]

The concept of Grand Rounds originated in the early 20th century at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, and has since become a standard teaching tool in medical education worldwide. The term "Grand Rounds" was coined to describe these comprehensive, patient-centered case presentations.

Format[edit | edit source]

The format of Grand Rounds can vary, but typically includes a detailed presentation of a patient's history, symptoms, signs, and lab results. This is followed by a discussion of the differential diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis. The audience is encouraged to ask questions and discuss the case.

They provide a platform for learning and discussion, promote the sharing of knowledge and experience, and foster a sense of community among healthcare professionals. They also help to keep healthcare professionals up-to-date with the latest developments in their field.

Challenges[edit | edit source]

Despite their benefits, Grand Rounds also pose some challenges. These include the need to ensure that the content is relevant and up-to-date, and that the format is engaging and interactive. There is also the challenge of ensuring that Grand Rounds are accessible to all healthcare professionals, regardless of their location or schedule.

Future[edit | edit source]
